Is it possible for individual investors to purchase investment grade CMBS bonds, and if so,where?
Is it possible? Sure. Can any individual investor purchase them, nope. You would need to be an Accredited Investor if you wanted to purchase them. They usually carry a face value of $25,000 or more, which is done to attract ACs, since individual investors generally don’t have access to that much capital. By focusing on ACs the issuer doesn’t have to jump through as many hoops when registering with the SEC. If you are an AC, and you want to buy some of these debt securities, than you need to find out who the Primary Servicer is of the issuance, as they will generally be the person you are purchasing from.
